A few years back we built a set of Pine Early American Kitchen Cabinets
for Bob and Mary's beautiful summer home in Glenfield, N.Y. They were now looking of a completely custom made piece to set next to the entrance way of their home. The shelf
needed to be bi-level so the light switches could be utilized, while also using the space beneath them. They planned to place shoes in the smaller section and decorating the
taller section with figurines.

The bookcase was built to match existing furniture, and we pulled details and design from these pieces. Here is a shot of a free floating paneled top. The custom bookcase was crafted out of 1 1/2" thick eastern white pine.
One of the details found on the existing pieces was that a good portion of the saw marks from the mill were not planed or sanded out. This gave the piece a distinctive rustic look. It took a lot of hand sanding to keep the saw marks, while assuring the piece didn't feel rough.
