Early Settler's Gate Leg, Drop Leaf Sewing Table
Early Settler's Rustic Furniture by Delnero Rustic Furniture
Custom Made Handcrafted Furniture
This primitive sewing table was about the first piece ever built by Delnero Custom Furniture Co. in the rustic Early Setter's style.
Built of northern white pine, the table measures 36" wide, 30" high, and 24" deep when in the closed position. When both 18" drop
leaves are in the up position, the table measures 72" long. The table was originally built by Mike Delnero for his wife Mary to use
for sewing in their Southampton, Mass. home. In a small den where Mary did her sewing, there wasn't enough space to accommodate a
large table between other pieces. The result of this problem produced this custom built table. When Mary needed more work space,
she would pull the table away from the wall, allowing space to open in front of the existing pieces.
To open the sewing table, simply lift the leaf and pull the support leg under it. The table has 3 small drawers that are useful for thimbles and such for the sewing machine. The finish was achieved by applying a base coat of red mahogany stain, followed by a red, then blue coats of paint. A lot of elbow grease was applied to create the worn look!
